Independent Reserves League 06-15-1926 Home | | | Breaking News | | Saturday, June 5th, 1926: Davis Tosses Shutout "That was one of my best outings," said Roger Davis. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Superbas hurler. He blanked the Sluggers 5-0 on a strong 4-hitter while ringing up 3 strikeouts and doling out 2 walks.
| | Tuesday, June 1st, 1926: 5 Hits for Farmers Vanandingham John Vanandingham was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Farmers to a 4-2 victory over the Seafaros Hoppers.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Salara second baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Vanandingham finished the day with 5 hits in 8 at-bats and a line in the record book.
J. Vanandingham grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, singled in the 10th, flied out in the 13th, doubled in the 15th and singled in the 17th.
