The Boys of Summer will soon be here in all of their radiant glory to put some sparkle back in the lives of baseball fans everywhere. There will be many of those seemingly meaningless exhibition games, but they do have an important purpose--to prepare teams for the coming regular season. The 1926 Novice Leagues schedule has been announced, and the preseason starts today. |  | Saturday, October 31st, 1925: Chenoweth Selected SNL's Best Batter The top batter in the Southern Novice League in 1925 was Whitesand first baseman Trey Chenoweth. For his standout play, he was voted the Top Novice Hitter Award.
Chenoweth starred this season with a .377 batting average, 140 hits, 8 home runs, 66 RBIs, .538 OBP and 106 runs scored.
This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner, and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season. |  | Saturday, October 31st, 1925: Jack Somers Named Premier NNL Batsman The Northern Novice League has made it official -- Jack Somers is the winner of the Top Novice Hitter Award.
In the 1925 season, the Geo Bahn left fielder stood out with a .422 batting average, 28 doubles, 9 triples, 5 home runs and 74 RBIs. Somers also had 51 walks, posted a .486 on-base percentage and scored 74 times.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Somers for being the NNL's top-rated batter. He will receive it at the association's annual awards dinner. | | | | |
